How to make Varagu Arisi Kozhukattai
'Kodo Millet' which is called 'Varagu Arisi' in Tamil. It is one of the oldest crops in India. 'Kodo' is cultivated in very less amount. Kodo(Varagu) had high fiber and high proteins which is good for our health. Now we can see how to make Varagu arisi kozhukattai.
Ingredients:
Varagu Arisi Flour - 1 cup
Rice Flour - 1 cup
Ghee -1 tablespoon
Dates - 50 grams
Shredded Coconut - 1/4 cup
Cardamom Powder - 1/2 spoon
Salt - as required
Preparation:
Take a vessel and add varagu flour in that and add 2 tablespoons of rice flour. Add salt as per your taste and mix well.
Now turn on the heat and place a vessel. Now add water as much as needed and add 1/2 spoon ghee into it. Turn off the heat once the water is warm. Use this water to mix the flour into a dough. Cover the bowl and let it be in rest for 10 minutes.
In the meantime take a bowl add dates, cardamom powder, and shredded coconut and mix well. Keep this mixture aside.
Now make small balls from the dough and make it flat using your hands. Now place some filling in the dough and close all the sides so that the filling doesn't come out. You can also use molds to do in different shapes.
Now turn on the heat and place idly steamer. Place the kozhukattai in it and allow it to cook for 7 to 10 minutes. After that make sure kozhukattai is cooked then serve them and enjoy.
