Varagu Arisi Pongal
Pongal is one of the traditional breakfast in Tamil Nadu. It is normally prepared using Rice. But, in this recipe, we have used 'Varagu Arisi' which is known as 'Kodo Millet' in English. Kodo Millet is one of the ancient food which our ancestors use to cook. Varugu arisi has more nutrition than normal rice and it's good for our health.
Ingredients:
Varagu Arisi - 200 grams
Split Moong Dal - 100 grams
Ginger - 2-inch piece
Asafoetida(Perungayam)- as required
Ghee - 4 tablespoon
Black Pepper - 1 spoon
Jeera - 1 spoon
Curry Leave - as required
Salt - as required
Preparation:
Turn on the heat and roast Split Moong Dal in a very slow flame. Once the Dal is roasted take that from the flame and keep it aside to cool.
Wash the Varagu Arisi and Moong Dal and soak in water for above 1/2 hour. after 1/2 hour turn on the flame and place a pressure cooker. Add ghee, once it is heated add black pepper, jeera, ginger, and curry leave and mix well.
Now add soaked Varagu Arisi and Moong Dal and pour 1/2 litter water into it. Add salt as required and mix well. Now close the pressure cooker lid and wait for the 4 cooker whistle. After some time open the cooker and serve it on a plate with chutney.
